These days, the freelance web design market is more crowded than ever and it’s barely hart to find a reliable partner for your project. One reason is the wide availability of design tools like Figma, affordable, accessible, and easy to learn. Don’t get me wrong — I’ve both taken and taught design courses myself.

The result is that many people, after just a few weeks of training, start calling themselves UX/UI designers. But there’s a big difference between knowing a tool and understanding user experience. A nice-looking layout doesn’t guarantee usability, let alone conversions.
That’s why many entry-level designers offer lower prices they can be a good fit for early-stage projects or one-off tasks, but may struggle with deadlines, budgets, and aligning design with real business goals.
Tip: Always ask for real case studies and, if possible, speak with past clients. Make sure the designer understands what you’re really after whether it’s driving sales, increasing conversions, or building brand trust.
Another reason for the huge volume of offers is the global expansion of the freelance market especially in lower-cost regions. While many talented people work there, in my experience, it’s common to meet generalists who offer “everything”: design, development, SEO, research all from one person. That might sound efficient, but it often leads to surface-level results.
Sometimes, portfolios are exaggerated or curated, and communication can be challenging due to language barriers. Misunderstandings or lack of clarity can slow down progress and increase frustration on both sides.
Tip: Always schedule a discovery call. Make sure you understand the person and they understand you in terms of both language and business context. You’re not just hiring hands, you’re hiring a thinking partner.
Have you come across a product or service that surprised you with great quality at a low price? Drop it in the comments, I’m curious to hear your examples.
